How does train pivot? Posted by Mike Thorn, 14 June 2020

Hi guys. A couple of questions regarding moving train from my last couple of games. Trying to figure out what options train have as single element moves. I realise the answer is not a lot. It says train can only move in the direction they are facing. They can move by wheels. They can also move by pivoting up to 90 degrees, provided the pivot point is either a front corner or the point of contact of another element. Picture 1 is of a blade in side edge contact with train. Can I pivot the warwagon to photo 2, so long as no rear or front corner moves further than its move distance?

Vincent Cholewa Hi Mike I don’t think you can pivot like that. Diagram 4a shows pivoting is around your own element’s corner or around another element’s corner. I think that is what “point” of contact is referring to.

Another option you have in some circumstances (t

  • Mike Thorn Vincent Cholewa is blade B on diagram 4a not doing that in relation to spear X?
  • Vincent Cholewa Mike Thorn Bd A is pivoting on its own front corner. Bd B is pivoting on the corner of the Sp it has contacted.
  • Mike Thorn Is the difference the pivot point being on the front edge? As opposed to being on a edge?
  • Vincent Cholewa Mike Thorn exactly. The pivot is on the front corner - a point not a line.
  • Mike Thorn Vincent Cholewa hmm. Could I not pivot on the front corner of my own blade in the above photos?
  • Mike Thorn Pivoting the warwagon around that front corner?
  • Neil Williamson I think the rules as written could be interpreted that way, ie you can pivot on your own element. You couldn't do it on an enemy element as train cannot move into enemy contact.
However, I think the pivot rule is written to accommodate the contact of an enemy corner with your front edge. Strangely, it does not state enemy element in the rule.
I think this is one of those RAW v RAI moments
  • Vincent Cholewa Mike Thorn you pivot around the point you have contacted as in diagram 4a. The side edge of the blade is not that.
