Lusitanian expendable flaming oxen - posted by Russell Briant, 24 September 2023

This is part two and three of my Lusitanian expendable flaming oxen models.
In these I look at the alternative interpretation offered by Frontinus and Zonaras (though I’ve kept the flaming torches)…
“Frontinus and Zonaras suggest the use of loaded chariots carrying burning branches instead of torches on the bulls' horns.”
I thought chariots are likely rare so have replaced those with light carts.
I also decided that reducing the towing oxen vulnerability to intervening missile troops could have been a canny step so I have added lashed shield to the heads and flanks of the beasts. Together with the heavy yokes I have anticipated sondergepanzerteflammenwagen…
Bovis and carts are Potbelly Miniatures prints from Northern Crusades STLs.

Pyrenees mastiffs are Wargames Atlantic Dark Age Irish hounds.

      Altho I'm surprised you didnt stick with roman style quadriga chariots, complete with screaming romans partially visible under the portable pyres
