Middle Imperial Romans vs Carthaginians - posted by Ben Vartok, 9 April 2022

The Alfresco Gaming Series resumed yesterday with my (very early) Middle Imperial Romans. A return to gaming for me after a shoulder reconstruction and a challenge with mostly the left hand especially the dice results, they were terrible for first half of the game. Played aganist Benny's Carthies as part of his Training Camp for the nationals. 240 points and we both deployed up close then proceeded with complicated redeployments to enginneer good matchups for the Warband who wanted to fight my blades and for my blades who wanted to fight Spearmen. In the end neither really fought anyone and the Roman odinary Ax carved up the Spearmen as my dice turned good. Benny borrowed one of my tactics, that of fighting with the smallest command first. There was even a personal combat with the Numidian Ally General taking on a Roman Sub General. 15 - 10 to the Romans and a good morning's gaming.

I think the major takeaway from this is that Benny was wargaming on his wedding anniversary.

Nick Buckby We finished on time so that he could celebrate appropriately. Now how many days notice did you give him with your annual reminder of the anniversary?

I wouldn’t know. He didn’t invite me to his wedding.
