Been working for a couple of weeks on this diorama on a small temple to Julius Caesar and his gens Julii (IVLII in Latin) and I think it’s now done.
It will be four baggage elements in my Mid Roman army to start with.
Why wouldn’t Emperor Julianus, his back to the wall, want the Devine assistance of his deified cognomen initiator of the Imperial line, possibly with some spurious family lineage connection to boot.

| The painted statue of Gaius Julius is a resin model that has been sitting around for this purpose for some time. |

| A couple of worthies are sacrificing to the gods. The upper figure is metal from Baueda Wargames and most of the pots, plinths and braziers are resin parts of that kit. The lower figure pouring a libation is a metal figure Warlord’s Games Roman Civilian set. |

| A white bull awaits his fate. He is a conversion from a plastic Asian buffalo (remove and reglue the horns with tips pointing up. Add miliput dewlap and hump. Add wine top lead halter and belt) |

| From the front. The temple is a scratch build. Its pillars are wedding cake decoration bought some time back. Most of the rest balsawood. |

| The more mundane scene is a Roman matron using the temple environment to have a wee supper, served by her maid while considering jewelry from a trader. The trader’s Gallic slave guards the scene. A one legged beggar seeks some kind treatment for a veteran down on his luck. These are all from the Warlords Games Roman Civilian set and have been sitting undercoated for several years. |

| I have followed the theme that Greeks and Romans painted their buildings, statues and temples and used bright colours. |
