DBMM 200, big battle DBA and ADLG in Levin - shared by Vince Cholewa, 5 August 2026

August 2: Four games, free figures, home casting and a birthday!

At our meeting yesterday it was great to see 12 people playing, there were visitors and, because it was Liam's birthday, Sarah brought along a Sally Lunn (a.k.a. Boston bun) for her bro. Happy birthday!
Ed Gough and Grant te Tau came along to check out the action and talk toy soldiers; Steve Sands provided a box of 15mm figures, free to a good home - Mike Waters took them home to sort through for what he can use; Stephen has a Prince August home casting set for anyone who would like it; and David Taylor brought tea, coffee and biscuits. Thank you 🙂
Games played were:
  • Big battle DBA: Mike Waters ran a 15mm game, very kindly bringing all the figures and terrain. He, David and Stephen had the Swiss vs Sarah, Liam and Samuel Taylor (Burgundians). The Burgundians had the better wine and the win.
  • BattleTech: Blair and Richard Glendinning continued their learning games.
  • ADLG: Bryan Fowler (Seleucids) played Brett (Romans) using the club's terrain tiles.
  • DBMM 200: Chris Blackler (Dublin Vikings) and I (Lithuanians) continued practicing for the Wellington Warlords' annual Call to Arms at the end of the month. Yesterday, Chris got to defend and, my word, having more control of the terrain made a difference. We stopped with an honourable draw, one command each disheartened and both armies having lost between 10% and 20% of their morale equivalents (ME). Depending on their quality, different troops provide more or less ME, and when an army losses more than half its ME it breaks.

DBMM 200: Chris Blacker deploying his Dublin Vikings vs my Lithuanians. As well as the light ...

    ... Chris and I had a heater 🙂

DBMM 200: Chris's flotilla advances on his right and my Tatars and Lithuanian light horse swirl around on my right. Eventually, there was a "crang!" in the middle.

Ed Gough and Grant te Tau visited.

Stephen has this Prince August home casting kit, free to a good home.

Steve provided these figures, which Mike has taken home to sort for treasures.
