A little discovery for today: I’ve been working on The Umbrian Rite – Before the Storm, a new 15mm Italic army for historical wargaming.
I’m sharing the presentation video here to get feedback from fellow enthusiasts. The Kickstarter campaign is coming soon!

THE HISTORY
Among the Umbrians, war and religion were inseparable. Before the first javelin was thrown, the gods had to be satisfied.
The Iguvine Tablets (Tabulae Iguvinae), discovered in Gubbio during the 15th century, are the most complete pre-Roman religious text to survive from ancient Italy. Written in the Umbrian language, a close relative of Oscan and Latin, they describe in remarkable detail the rites that governed civic and military life: the lustratio exercitus (purification of the army), the ritual procession around the city gates, the sacrifices offered to Grabovius, Trebus and Tursa, and the ceremonies intended to drive away enemies and harmful spirits.
Few Italic peoples have left such detailed evidence of the rituals that preceded battle. This army reflects that duality: warriors shaped by the harsh realities of Apennine mountain warfare and by the discipline of a deeply codified sacred tradition.
