Here's some photos from yesterday's Hutt Club meeting. I played Barry's Early Crusaders with my Feudal Spanish which eventually I lost, failing to consider him doing a flank march and some poor PIP dice didn't help.Gary using some sort of Greeks played Phil's Spartans and Allen using Later Carthaginians lost to Peters Sumerians.

Barry NorrisEarly in the game. You can see the Spanish going for the weak Crusader right flank on the far side. Spanish CinC is in the foreground. |

Barry NorrisByzantine ally in the foreground still having a cup of tea, then Bohemond (CinC) and the knights with the holding command of spears with a few crossbows and knights on the hill. |
 |
Barry NorrisThe Almughavars spent a LH(S) in a straight fight just after this. Combat dice are fickle. Of course the 4 Kn(O) from the flank march arrived shortly thereafter (from roughly where the camera is sitting) which did not end well for the Ax(S)

 |
Barry NorrisYou can see here the Kn(S) having to come forward out of the line as they pressed forward on shooting. The SG beside them recoiled as well. I was lucky to break up the attack. |
 |
Barry NorrisOn the far side, the flank march has just been revealed but not yet arrived on table. The Byzantines moved to stop the Ax(S) while the Spanish LH wheeled away from the flank edge. In the centre the Spanish spearmen and light troops advance to try to pressure the Crusader line. At the rear some Spanish Crossbowmen head off to help seal the flank. |
 |
Barry NorrisThe LH try to avoid the flank march but run out of PIPs and end up sitting there until the Crusader knights arrive. |

John van den HoevenYeah it came on early unfortunately and his unreliable Turkoman ally also activated early.
Barry NorrisIt was the weirdest set of PIPs I've seen for a while. The Byzantine Turkopole ally was unreliable but the CinC had enough PIPs to activate it next turn and then it threw 5s and 6s for most of the game for PIPs (and when you consider it's 5 Reg LH(S) plus general it moved around a lot by single element moves). And the flank march came on in T4 or 5 but then threw a 1 so was delayed further. But John could only throw PIP 1s and 2s on that side so I had a flank march, the Byzantines and part of the CinC knight command all pressuring one command that was throwing 1s. Not a game of dice? Hmmm - I think so. John had great PIPs - in the centre where he didn't need them. Even his attack on the other flank dried up. Not a lot you can do ...

Barry NorrisFrom memory I got a bit lucky here. Shot at the Kn(S) who had to advance when they won the contest (doubled me and spontaneous), then got good combat dice on the attack. Dice ... Barry NorrisI think this my bound after movement and before combat.

Barry NorrisThe perfect Greek battle - two phalanxes going at it in a dried stream bed. |
