List of possible armies for the Levin DBMM competition, July 29-30, early and classical Greeks and their enemies - collated by Craig Mabon, 30 December 2022

Email from Craig Mabon, who has created a list of possible armies for the Levin DBMM competition, July 29-30, early and classical Greeks and their enemies:
“While I'm currently not on Facebook, Ross shared details of your planned tournament next year.
“At this stage I do have an army that qualifies: Early Hoplite Greek 479 BC (Spartans and allies at Plataea, and not a mounted figure in sight - only four-legged creatures in the army are some sheep and a sheepdog in the baggage). So far I've not considered it a competition army, but one to be used in match-ups against contemporaries. Your tournament will give me an opportunity to use in competition.
“Ross may also be able to field an army. I am slowly painting an Alexandrian Macedonian army for him. His date is 338 BC - Phillip as C-in-C and Alexander as SG. This depends on how fast I can paint the necessary figures, as I promised him for his birthday back in June, Currently I've completed 8 elements of Pk, 2 elements of Ax, and 3 elements of Ps with 4 more elements of Pk and 4 of Ps nearing completion (and have been for the last fortnight). The recent arrival of the Thessalians from Old GLory completes (I think) the mounted requirements and for the foot, well, we'll just have to see what Father Christmas brings...
“Anyway I went through the various Greek lists and compiled a table of those armies and all their enemies, and restricted the enemy lists to the dates of the Greek army they are fighting. I then collated the process and where enemies appear multiple times I rationalized this down to one entry per list with the earliest start and latest end based on their opponent (and their own start and end dates). I've attached my findings.
“Because the Early and Later Hoplite Greek lists include Sicilian and Southern Italian Greeks, the enemies include the first three Roman lists (Early, Camillan and Polybian), Early Carthaginian and Pyrrhus.
“Regards

“Craig”

Potbelly Miniatures Probably should also include the regular Gauls (as well as Galatians) as opponents to Archaic Greek cities in southern France (most famously Massalia) a̵n̵d̵ ̵w̵h̵a̵t̵e̵v̵e̵r̵ ̵e̵a̵r̵l̵y̵ ̵N̵o̵r̵t̵h̵ ̵A̵f̵r̵i̵c̵a̵n̵ ̵l̵i̵s̵t̵ ̵c̵o̵v̵e̵r̵s̵ ̵t̵h̵e̵ ̵l̵o̵c̵a̵l̵ ̵p̵e̵o̵p̵l̵e̵ ̵a̵r̵o̵u̵n̵d̵ ̵t̵h̵e̵ ̵A̵r̵c̵h̵a̵i̵c̵ ̵G̵r̵e̵e̵k̵ ̵s̵e̵t̵t̵l̵e̵m̵e̵n̵t̵ ̵a̵t̵ ̵C̵y̵r̵e̵n̵e̵.̵ (NVM, that's Early Libyan)
