‘De Bellis Fantasiae' - posted by Paul Murgatroyd, 9 January 2025

Vincent Cholewa has kindly invited me into the group to post details of our new WRG ruleset ‘De Bellis Fantasiae’, which is due for publication on March 1st and has a new Facebook page now in operation to support the rules. The text on the back of the rules, giving an overview of them for those who are interested, is:
‘De Bellis Fantasiae is set of wargame rules that allow players to fight the great battles of fantasy literature, film, myth or of one’s own imagination, with miniature figures of between 6mm to 28mm scale, using basing that is standard across many rules.
Based on fast play mechanics drawn from Phil and Sue Barker’s famous historical rule set, De Bellis Antiquitatus, battles of a flexible size can be fought to completion within 1-3 hours. Armies can vary, based on a points system, ranging from as few as 30 figures to over 100 for a standard sized game. The book is complete, and no further purchases are required to play the game.
De Bellis Fantasiae features clear diagrams throughout, a plethora of army lists, with well defined fantasy (and historical) troops, a magic system with multiple spell types, special rules for customizing the abilities of troops, and finally suggested campaign systems.’
Many thanks for your time 👍

With a few additions, DBMM armies will easily morph into fantasy versions.

Could you play Colonial games with modified fantasy rules ? Most historical battles between neighboring countries feature armies with weapons and formations similar to each other..
