DBMM 100, DBA and other games at the Levin Library - posted by Vince Cholewa, 12 January 2024

Wargaming at Levin Library yesterday: Many thanks to everyone who travelled from Whanganui and Palmerston North (and our local gamers), played six games and came along to support. Gamers and games were:
Harry, James and Blake travelled from Whanganui to play “Conquest SF” and “Haywire” modern urban skirmishes. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1N5hm6bwd1/?mibextid=wwXIfr
Chris Blackler (Late Imperial Romans) and Samuel Taylor (Thracians) played DBMM 100. A win for the Romans after a bloody struggle.
David Taylor (Later Achaemenid Persians) and I (Thracians) played two games of DBA, ending with a win each. David had chosen an option where half the Persian army was mounted. First game he defended and placed minimal terrain and was able to get light horse around both flanks of my army making a major nuisance of themselves. With the Thracians stretched too far he hit my left with the Persian knights and cavalry - game over. Second game I defended and maxed the terrain - even after two pieces of terrain would not fit and had to be discarded it was a much more terrain-heavy table. Without room for cunning mounted manoeuvring, and with plenty of terrain in which psiloi and peltasts could lurk, the Thracians made good use of the home ground advantage.
Richard Glendinning ran a Battletech learning scenario for his three sons. Heather M McLeary from Palmerston North and Rhys Hendry also brought their Battletech figures and boards and watched on.
Great to see Rex Hurley from Whanganui (and thank you so much for the paint, books and terrain), Steve Sands, Ken Hay and Mark Conroy come along to check out the games and lend moral support.

Our next meetings: With the holidays over we are looking to return to our regular schedule of games on the first and third Sunday of each month. Renovations of the Levin East School hall are progressing and we will be back at our regular venue for the third Sunday next month, February 16. We are looking for a possible alternative venue for Sunday, February 2; to be confirmed as soon as possible.
