Hutt Club venue being renovated, alternate meeting arrangements being made - posted 4 January 2025

Hi all - below is an email that's just gone out to all our members regarding meetings for 2025.

St Brendans reached out to Tom just before Christmas to let us know that the school is undergoing some renovations in 2025. The school is expecting them to take at least Term One to complete and as a result they’ll be using the hall as temporary classroom space while these renovations are ongoing and we won’t be able to use the space until the renovations are done.
So what does that mean for the club?
Our first meeting on the 11th of January will be on as normal but after that club meetings are on hold while we look for a suitable temporary alternative space while the renovations at St Brendans are happening.
Given our longstanding relationship, the principal at St Brendans has offered to help in finding a temporary alternative with the other schools nearby and we’ll be taking up that offer. Tom will be catching up once the school reopens on the 16th. We’ll also be reaching out to our ValleyCon contact at the Upper Hutt City Council to see if they might have something we can use temporarily as well. The committee are also keen to hear any suggestions that our members might have that we can look into.
The committee has also already talked about what we’ll do about membership subs depending on how long it takes us to locate an alternative.

We know this isn’t the kind of news anyone likes to get and you’d all appreciate a bit more certainty but given the time of year we haven’t really been able to kick anything meaningful off until now. We’ll keep you all updated as things progress.

All the best guys. About 25 years ago the Immortals had a similar experience with a new Principal who gave us a fortnight to quit and ended up with a year of flitting about before stability returned. Your situation looks a lot simpler and more likely to have a positive solution. Heads up.

Vincent Cholewa I expect
so. We'll have to see what the club arranges. I wondered why the school didn't reply to my booking.
