I’ve also responded, but want to clarify a couple of my replies.
I’ve said I started while I was at school and that “I was there at the beginning”.
I bought my first “proper” wargames figures 55 years ago, which is obviously well over the 40 years ago of the next group down, but I would date the start of wargaming in its current form about 10 years earlier, and although I was still at school at the time, I was in my final year and left 3-4 months later.
