Rules Question
I have contacted an enemy column on front and hard flank. Flanking element covers all of flank of enemy first rank and some of second rank. In combat enemy first rank is destroyed. My front contact element does not follow up.
Question: What does my flank contact element do, and when.
Bonus Question: Where in the rules is this covered.
I'm sure I have seen it in the rules but cannot find it now. I think my flank contact element slides to front corner to front corner contact, not sure when this happens.

Alastair DuncanIf you were a real soldier you would fight man to man front to front!
Such clever questions mark you down as some sort of would be tactician.
I will be writing a letter to Phil about this outrageous behaviour …

Ben VartokI think Alastair has got it mostly right. Also pretty sure it's covered by the EMTLU on page 33. "An element or group in edge contact but not already lined up as specified above must immediately move the minimum extra up to 80p needed to end lined up
with an enemy edge etc. In your example your flank contact would line with the front corner immediately. The opposing player would turn to face in it's bound immediately before combat.
Andrew BennettsMy take is that it is covered under the Extra Movement to Line Up wording on p33. "An element or group in edge contact but not already lined up......MUST immediately move the minimum extra up to 80p needed to end lined up with an enemy edge". Once the
front enemy element is destroyed, the flanking element is in partial edge contact with the second enemy element so "MUST immediately" line up by sliding down to a valid front corner to front corner edge contact. Any close combat resulting would be resolved in the next bound

According to the commentary version 7.1.1, 23 October 2021:
“An element that is in flank edge contact but no longer corner to corner contact after a combat due to its opponents being destroyed is moved into legal contact with remaining opponents during
the pursuit phase.”
The example the commentary gives is the first two ranks of Pk being destroyed and the flanking element sliding to line up with the third rank of Pk.
It refers to rules on p.33, moving into close combat, and EMTLU.
EMTLU says, “An element or group in edge contact but not already lined-up as specified above must (and any moving in an enemy TZ may) immediately move (expending no PIPs) the minimum extra up to 80p needed to end lined up with an enemy edge …”

I have found the answer under the section "Moving Friendly Elements in Non-Standard Flank Contact with Elements Contacted by Pursuers" in the commentary. Which says "An element that is in flank edge but no-longer corner to corner contact after a
combat due to its opponents
being destroyed is moved into legal contact with remaining opponents during the pursuit phase. ", there are a few ifs and buts around TZs.
