Famous painter and gamer, Kevin Dallimore - shared by Ben Vartok, 22 December 2021

A paintbrush tip and also a link to a very interesting interview with Kevin Dallimore. He was with Foundry for many years and is now with Northstar as their inhouse painter. Probably the reason why the Frostgrave and Oathmark stuff looks so good. Anyway famous painter but also a gamer. A good interview and if you can get his painting guide that also has heaps of tips....

Paperplus stock a range of synthetic brushes that are cheap and actually hold a point. I use them for the first two layers then move to very fine sable for final layer/s. They are the Jasart range, silver brushes and a good variety of sizes.

The Masters Interviews: Kevin Dallimore

Latest in a series of podcast-style chats with interesting and well-known people from the world of miniature wargaming. This time I’m hugely grateful to professional miniature painter and author Kevin Dallimore for chatting with me. Kevin’s been working in the hobby for 25 - plus years, and has close ties to great projects and manufacturers such as Wargames Foundry and North Star. He’s also written a series of successful books about painting and modelling, and has also been a judge for painting competitions such as the one run at Salute. In recent years he’s painted and photographed miniatures for Frostgrave, Oathmark and others and while working with Foundry codified the ‘triad’ style of painting and created a paint range to match. All pictures are used by kind permission and are copyright as follows; Frostgrave and Oathmark figure images: North Star Military Models Others: Foundry and Kevin Dallimore. I have known Kev for 40 years on and off and he is a member of my local wargames club, but it takes a Facebook group on the other side of the globe for me to find out about this interview.

Denis Grey If you see him at club please pass on my thanks, his painting guide book and website is my goto for inspiration and technique. I found the interview when doing a Youtube search for painting videos, was hoping to find some by Kevin but found that instead. Sounds like a top bloke and that hilarious moment when Kevin turns out to be the judge in the only painting competition the interviewer has entered....worth the price of admission.

Ben Vartok I shall certainly do that. The club is now closed until the New Year - and, of course, what will happen after that is anyone's guess.
