Andalusian and Berber light horse - posted by John Edmundson, 8 October 2021

I'm working on some 15mm Andalusian and Berber (EMNA) light horse. I'm not great at painting but I'm quite happy with the calligraphy on these shields. I know what they mean. But does anyone else know, or care?

Russell Briant From right to left (appropriately in the circumstances I think):
          Allahu Akbar
Allah (stylised into a teardrop shape)…

Nicely done, my Arabic is a bit rusty, and I could only read the first one, however knowing what they are I can then make out the letters.

Dirk Heinsius You're probably quite a bit better than me. I have a very little Arabic but I do know the alphabet. I would like to learn more.

Years ago, I spent a couple of months in Syria, which was fantastic, however there was little english spoken outside the big cities, so I had to pick up Arabic, pretty damned quickly, including reading the destinations on the fronts of buses 🙂

Dirk Heinsius Ditto me I'm Morocco, but the Arabic there is mixed with Berber and you can usually find someone who speaks French or English, which makes it harder to progress . . .

Dirk Heinsius Yes. I looked again and thought, My God, what have I done!
I thought zafar would be good too but it comes from Persian so may not have made it all the way to Spain. But then, I think there was a lot of movement around so perhaps?

Here's all nine elements so far. The horses are lurking, black undercoat at the ready, awaiting their moment.
