ValleyCon: Ptolemaic vs Assyrian - posted by Russell Briant, 28 January 2019

Photos from my game against Craig Mabon. Sennacherib’s finest pulled off an early arriving flank march which had the misfortune of low pip dice so couldn’t fully exploit the stratagem.
The Ptolemaic Imitation Legionnaires from the lowest dice command did the long march across the table to eventually set to grips with Craig’s refused flank.
Having also marched my pike block across the face of the enemy I also did a risky swap of pip priority just as the flank march arrived but survived the pip drain confusion.

Pike block looking across at the Assyrians and about to execute a turn by files to their right to follow the Companions to avoid fighting on rocky ground.

Craig Mabon exploited the rocky ground to anchor a refused flank

Companions repositioning to try and line up against auxiliaries. Superior Auxiliaries and Psiloi column heads to contest the rocky ground on Craig’s left.

The heavy haulers and superior class of Assyrian auxiliary

Imitation Legionnaires have their orders changed from blocking force to long marching flank assaulters

Approach march complete. Time to go forward and support the not-Imitation Legionnaires attacking the hinge of the Assyrian line
