Rusto-leum has stopped making Matt Black "Primer". In case anyone is going around the shops looking for some, like I was. I’ve used the "Primer and Paint" can previously without any issues. Edited for clarity.

Vincent CholewaI have used Rust-oleum plastic primer for, funnily enough, plastic figures. It’s good stuff.
Dan CarsonAutomotive primer is far better. Thinner more even coat, adheres to all surfaces, more durable.

Bruce FergusonFor undercoating plastic I use automotive vinyl and fabric paint. For metal you can use just about anything
