Rust-oleum has stopped making Matt Black "Primer" - posted by Daniel Wade, 18 July 2025

Rusto-leum has stopped making Matt Black "Primer". In case anyone is going around the shops looking for some, like I was. I’ve used the "Primer and Paint" can previously without any issues. Edited for clarity.

I have used Rust-oleum plastic primer for, funnily enough, plastic figures. It’s good stuff.

Vincent Cholewa I've been using it for everything, figures, terrain whether plastic, metal, wood etc.

Automotive primer is far better. Thinner more even coat, adheres to all surfaces, more durable.

Dan Carson Whats the cost like? Its $16 a can for Rust-oleum . My brother uses Car undercoat in a can he thins down and sprays with an airbrush. That seems a lot of work for a small batch of figures.

For undercoating plastic I use automotive vinyl and fabric paint. For metal you can use just about anything
