Ghurid's Khurasanian mercenary light horse - posted by Russell Briant, 3 January 2026

Have today finished four Khurasanian mercenary light horse for my Ghurid army.
The figures use the Gripping Beast Plastic Arab light horse as their base but with their compound bows coming from Victrix Imperial Roman archers. Arrows being drawn or held in hand come from the Victrix Dark Ages archers set as are four of the upper torsos.
I have managed to make one of the figures making the Jarmaki behind the head draw. I’m pleased with how that has come out.
I decided to make the LH(F) distinct in a force with a good number of light horse by having all the figures wearing the same ‘fez’ headgear. Four of the heads come from the Gripping Beast set and the other four from Perry Miniatures Plastic Sudanese set.

The other method for making them distinctive is to paint all the horses as golden Akhal Teke.

Good choices, the Victrix bows are perfect. The GB stuff is games sturdy but not particularly detailed. Lovely colours!

It’s fun ‘kit bashing’ to get variety and unique figures. Nice work 👍
