Auckland Cup, update - posted by Andrew Bennetts, 4 March 2024

Auckland Cup Reminder
We've had a good response so far from people new to DBMM who are keen to come along to Pukekohe at Easter but there is still plenty of room for more., so if you are interested (whether a relative newbie or one of the "usual suspects") pleas PM me and I'll keep you in the loop.
Planning for the Sunday multiplayer games is progressing nicely with a mighty 3 player a side Assyrians vs Philistines (with Egyptian friends of some variety) now confirmed. This will be at least 600AP a side so will be quite a spectacle. Planning towards one or more games of similar size is in hand.
Full Details are as below:
The Pukekohe Wargames Club will be hosting the inaugural DBMM Auckland Cup Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st March (Easter Saturday and Sunday).
This is NOT a competitive event but an opportunity to come and learn about the DBMM Ancient and Medieval Rules for massed battles.
The format on Saturday will be non-competitive informal games designed to help people learn and understand the DBMM system.
  • For players with some experience and their own armies, up to 3x240AP friendly games, either against someone of similar experience with a more experienced player as coach/umpire or against a more experienced player as a way to learn more about the system.
240AP games are about the same size as ADLG so if you have an ADLG army you'll almost certainly be able to use it for DBMM.
  • For players without their own army or with no experience of DBMM there will be the opportunity for smaller, 120 point games between historically matched pairs of armies. This level of game is similar in size to DBA and an excellent introduction to the DBMM mechanisms.
  • Games will mostly be in 28mm scale but if you have 15mm figures and want to use these, do let us know as 15mm opponents can be arranged
The format on Sunday will be one or more large multiplayer games with 3-4 players a side, where possible these will be historical matchups, possibly even recreations of famous battles.
Venue: Pukekohe Scout Hall, Edinburgh Street, Pukekohe. Cost will be $10 per day or $20 for the weekend

If you are interested in attending either or both days, please message me for more details.

Quick question. In your informal games do you include weather, time of day and naval?

Jon Willacy Hi Jon, its entirely up to the players. Weather and naval are often played. Time of day less so as the movement restrictions and reduced visibility at night tends to kill a game
