Brent Senior-Partridge Trophy - posted by Paul Graham, 3 October 2023

Call to Arms 2023 DBMM competition
Even if you weren't there last weekend, you're probably aware that the Call to Arms convention was cancelled at the last minute. The Wellington Warlords committee is planning to re-run the convention at a later date in October or November.
Meanwhile, those DBMM players who had already made it to Wellington hurriedly organised a replacement venue and ended up with a closely contested competition. Despite a couple of last minute withdrawals, we ended up with 12 players and 6 of the 8 original table maps (Poitiers, Carrhae, Quatre Bras, Hattin, Tewkesbury and Magnesia). Lots of good, tight games, even with pre-set terrain most of the games lasted 3 - 3 1/2 hours. Three visitors managed to find us to have a look around the games.
The overall winner and new BSP trophy holder was Peter Williamson, using his Khmer army and totalling 76/100. The rest of the field was:
1st Peter Williamson (Khmer), 76pts
2nd Richard Foster (Burgundian), 65pts
3rd Keith Trye (Medieval French), 60pts
Highly commended (in alphabetical order)
Alastair Donald (WOTR English), 41pts
Alastair Duncan (Middle Saxon), 55pts
Bruce Ferguson (Hungarian), 57pts
David Kinzett (Palmyran), 51pts
Gary Lewis (Early Imperial Roman), 52pts
Graham Starkey (Seleucid), 50pts
Tilman Walk (Seleucid), 53pts
Wayne Watts (Romanian Frank), 20pts
Neil Williamson (Tuareg), 20pts.
We had an award this year for the Most Cunning Player, the player who used the most flank marches, stratagems, looted the most baggage and slew the most (opposing) generals. This easily went to Tilman Walk who seemed to use every trick in the book, even out-scheming his Seleucid compatriot Graham Starkey in their civil war game.

Finally, the Wellington Warlords committee is looking at two or three weekends later this year for a replacement Call to Arms convention, at the usual venue of St Patrick's College hall. The dates will be announced shortly, and we are likely to have a DBMM competition as part of the event.

It was a bit daunting to see but what the hell, we charged in anyway expecting to just blow up but it turned into a great battle!!
In the end though the Saxons held out for the victory 4-21

Oh dear thinks Wayne, I may not have brought enough Romanian Franks
