Visiting Hadrian's Wall, again - posted by Andrew Bennetts, 21 September 2023

Sycamore Gap, then and now.
Back in 1984, I was lucky enough to spend 2 weeks as a volunteer helping to excavate what is one of the tallest standing lengths of Hadrian’s Wall, almost 2m high. Wonderful to visit again after 39 years (gulp!).
DBMM NZ content: Good luck to everyone at CTA in a couple of weeks. Can someone please make sure Richard Foster doesn’t win it a third time 😀

Same view as on the Kevin Costner movie?

Have a great time, Andrew Bennetts 😊 I understand there are excellent museums at some of the towns near the wall. Just hinting!

The Great North Museum: Hancock in Newcastle has a scale model of the wall. And if you can, the Arbeia Fort at South Shields is seriously good, better than Segedunum IMO. But check the opening times.

The Romans really haven’t maintained that very well.

The Gap was a little bare when I was there in April

And all these years I thought that it was Kevin Coster playing you in Robin Hood at Sycamore gap!
