Ghaznavids vs Knights of St John, and Sea Peoples vs early Chinese - posted by Ben Vartok 2 July 2023

Pukekohe today was abuzz. The club had 5 tables going (one was a giant 3 table table for Gettysburg) with Hail Caeser, ACW Fire n Fury and 40K plus two games of DBMM.
Benny played Gerard using Sea Peoples against an early Chinese Army.
My game was against John Calnan, Ghaznavids vs his Knights of St John. I invaded then ended up deploying first as often happens to me at the moment. The action took place with Military Order Knights going up against Reg Cv S on both flanks with particularly brutal results. On one flank I got the first charge in and killed two Reg Kn S and a Reg Kn S General but in John's next bound he rolled a 6 for the command meaning three of his remaining knights charged and I lost a general, Cav S and Kn F! Couple of Elephants went down to bow fire and my centre broke.
Still in the fight I got in my favourite cheesy (John's word) shot. My sub general hard flanked a Military orders Knight S. Then one of my Turkomen LH hard flanked the other side. As per the rules the Kn S turns to face the first to hit him and the LH moved into rear contact. End result dead Kn S.

John then sent another Kn S against my Sub General and 6 - 1ed him winning the game. Great game!

Many thanks for the report, Ben. Kn(S) rolling six in their bound sounds like a double digit combat factor!

Vincent Cholewa It was a 6 for pips for the command that had just lost their general. So it meant 3 moves which were all Kn S going after me. Six is the perfect pip roll if you don't have a general. Though yes he did roll a 6 against my Cv S general for combat as well.

Kevin McCarthy Didn't take any of those but have a look on the Pukekohe Wargaming Club site or the South Auckland site, they have merged. It wasn't a traditional Gettysburg refight in that the Confederates were on the hills and the Union attacked them........

I bet that ended badly for them.

Yup, the CSA were still on the hills when I finished my game.

Allen Yaxley Benny took some photos and will no doubt do a report. They were calling the game a draw I think. Quite a lot of dead and the Sea Peoples were well into the Chinese half and there was a lot of good / bad dice rolling from the level of exclamations!

Allen Yaxley The Sea Peoples game against the Chinese was a slow and ugly slog that eventually timed out with one Chinese command disheartened and one Sea Peoples command also approaching that point. The Sea Peoples managed to destroy the small force of Chines Wb but not without loss and could make no headway against the Chinese artillery and Bw(X) behind fortifications

Another view of the battle showing the fortifications that proved impossible to storm
