I tried to have round 1 & 2 as books 1 and 2 vs each other & books 3 and 4 vs each. Not a total success but fun .
Rounds 3 & 4 were on fixed terrain to increase game speed. Again , not entirely a success.

The standard of gaming was very High. The standard of armies was even higher.
The venue was fantastic, great food, good beer & air con when it worked.

  • Kelly Gay Thanks, Allen, as always very smooth. I quite liked the pre-set terrain. I think it could have merit as an approach. I agreed with my opponents what terrain would count as just to avoid confusion. It did speed up the game. In one game a player who has See More

  • Dirk Heinsius Pre-set terrain does however preclude having fortifications in one's army list.
    1
    • Vincent Cholewa Dirk Heinsius could they still be placed as part of deployment?
    • Dirk Heinsius Vincent Cholewa not if the pre-set yerrain already includes a bua
      1
    • Vincent Cholewa Dirk Heinsius I did not know that. I have found opponents’ fortifications bothersome. What is the rule? It might be useful to me!
    • Dirk Heinsius Basically, a BUA(f), although you pay points for the fortification, is still a terrain item, i.e. a BUA, and is placed during terrain placement. i.e. you can't have a BUA and a fortified tower for example because the tower is a BUA, and only 1 BUA can be placed. Hence PF are lost if you happen to be the invader, and can't place a BUA.
    • Vincent Cholewa Dirk Heinsius I see. TF are okay but not PF.
    • Dirk Heinsius Basically yes, you can even put TF around a BUA if one is available. Not sure how tis would work with pre-set terrain though.

    • Kenneth Chan Dirk Heinsius TF are part of the command as listed and deploy in the command rectangle. If the BUA is inside the deployment zone and within the stage 1 rectangle then yes otherwise cannot
    • Neil Williamson I don't think that TF are part of the commands. Check page 64, any BUA can have TF even if not in the army list. It has to be paid for of course. The points are wasted if you are invading or the BUA cannot be placed.
The BUA is placed together with it

Kenneth Chan I do not like preset terrain as picking the right battle location is an important part of generalship
