Question about troop types - 2nd March - Frank LeSquirrel

Hi guys, a question. I ‘ve played Armati 1st ed for awhile. Like the renaissance extention. Does DBMM cover troop tyoes found in DBA-RRR, such as Pistols, Dragoons, Shot & Grenadiers?

  • DBMM does extend into the 1st quarter of the 16th century (so includes the early Italian Wars, Henry VIII etc) but not combined pike/shot formations, dragoons or pistol armed cavalry

Thanks, I think I didn’t word my question very well. I assumed, because of the inclusion of the early Italian wars, the rules would have firearms [Aquebusiers] Pistol armed Rieters and mounted light aquebusiers...?

    • Pistols only really become common post 1525, so Rieters etc are not covered by DBMM. Skirmishing arquebusiers, both mounted and foot, are included while massed foot arquebusiers are also there. The simulation works quite well in that unsupported foot arquebusiers are vulnerable to pikes and knights in the open but very tough if they have cover or fortifications to protect them. As with pistol cavalry, integrated pike and shot formations are a later development and really require specific rules such as in DBR or other specialist rulesets.
