  • Vincent Cholewa Who was playing?
  • Mark Pickup Mark Pickup as rome and al Duncan as Carthage. The Romans are pleased that the slave markets have a great crop of new fit slaves after today’s battle.

  • Mark Pickup Battle was going in Carthage’s favour when Rome’s Numidian ally started as unreliable hampering their attack. Hannibal’s reliance on 8 untrained elephants proved an error with all eight dying for the loss of one Roman velite.
  • Mark Pickup But what swung the battle was Hannibal’s deployment error putting inferior spear in the second tank of superior thereby surrendering their supporting factor.
    • Dirk Heinsius Mark What is that sandy base colour that you have for your Romans?
    • Mark Pickup Dirk Heinsius I can't recall now it was a commercial product. But they are over a decade old. It may have been one from warlord games.
These days I paint over the builders filler and pva mix I use with a resene sandy colour paint and when the paint is wet I sprinkle fine clay dirt from the soil under my balcony. Looks good and my troops ate always fighting on home soil.
