Early 16th Century Polish - posted by Vince Cholewa, 18 April 2019

On my painting table: At last, finished the pavisors and crossbowmen for my early 16th Century Polish. Some more cavalry are behind them, undercoated and ready to start.

Tilman Dang nice work! Not sure about the italian and french pavise paterns, what are these meant to be?

  • Vincent Cholewa Tilman Dangthe colours and “herb” (coat of arms) of Chelm.
  • Tilman Dang ah! Chelm, of course (have to look that up ;-) yup, 100s of years before their use in western europe for post revolution france and italy...., human imagination is somewhat limited. Eagles, Bears, Tigers, Horses, dragons, Lions, Wolfes, Elephants, Scorpions, .... and a handfull of colors, red and gold dominant for emblems.
  • Vincent Cholewa Tilman Dangthe herb is a bear walking through the woods. I don’t know the correct heraldry-speak for that!
