DBMM Nationals: Allen Yaxley recognised for his Service to DBMM in NZ - posted by Andrew Bennetts, 4 June 2024

Allen Yaxley recognised for his Service to DBMM in NZ.

New Zealand is fortunate to have a thriving DBMM Community with 60+ people playing it with some regularity and a full calendar of events each of which attract 16-20 (or more) entrants. Allen is one of the principal reasons for this.
He began promoting DBMM in his local Upper Hutt club from DBMM's very beginning in the late 2000's, introducing people to the system and encouraging them to give it a go, growing the Upper Hutt Club into easily the largest DBMM group in the country.
Over the years he has also organised more events than probably anyone else in NZ as well as helping promote events, finding extra players to even up tournament numbers and helping manage facilities and refreshments. He and his lovely wife Fiona even host travelling players at their home.
Allen's most remarkable achievement must be the Team's event originally planned for 2020. With 8 teams (32 players!) all set, COVID shut down NZ but Allen somehow managed to keep everyone in touch and engaged, enabling the event to go ahead a year later with a full set of 8 teams.
DBMM in NZ owes a tremendous debt to Allen and it is a great pleasure to be able to recognise this.
