12 so far for Winter Cup, July 24 and August 14 - posted by Gary Lewis, 7 July 2021

Winter Cup Update

Good news, we may have a good number of players - 12 possible so far. Here's a reminder of the format:
Hutt Club on July 24th and August 14th. Two games per day
Usual club ‘rules’ apply: 450AP preferred but 400 by arrangement. No 2FE terrain on the shorter tables etc.
The winner gets the Rob Cameron Memorial trophy, plus the dubious responsibility of being the organiser for next year ðŸ˜‰
For this year’s Winter Cup, to add a bit of fun and some extra material for the bards to sing about, in each battle you may benefit from a little extra luck at a critical point in the struggle. You may have had a local help you out with the terrain, your prayers to the gods for strength in battle might have been answered, you might have some extra gold, or your companions may be inspired even more than usual.
Special Winter Cup Rule: At the start of the event, each player chooses and collects 4 different tokens from me, chosen from six available kinds of token (i.e. your choice but you can’t choose more than one of each type). One token will be used per game to represent your general’s extra luck. You will choose which one to use at the game start but you don’t declare it to the opponent until used, after which it is discarded. The six available tokens are:
Canny – can choose the side for one terrain piece as the battlefield is being set up. This is obviously used at that point in terrain setup.
Lucky – can reroll any one of your die rolls. This is used after the original die roll.
Fighter – can add one to a combat die role for any of your elements. This is used before rolling the dice for that combat.
Rich – can take an additional 10 points as mercenaries, using any element(s) available in the main or allied lists (for your army type and year) but without limit to normal maximum quantities. The troops are added to a command and deployed as normal, with the token being used when the mercenary troops are placed on the table.
Wise – can take an additional 10 points of strategems, taken as normal, with the token being used at the point the stratagem (or first one if more than one chosen) is declared. Note that you can’t use this to take more than one of the same stratagem.
Brave – one general is considered to be Superior for one pair of bounds only (i.e. yours plus opponents). The token is used at the start of your bound prior to rolling for PIPs.
Where relevant (‘lucky’ and ‘fighter’), tokens can be used in any bound and both players can use theirs at the same time.

Tokens are discarded once used. However if you *win* your battle (i.e. not a draw) you get your opponent’s token. While you can still only use one per battle this might give you another option ‘in your hand’.

Hey Gary good to see the number registered increasing. I think with Call to Arms over there will be more people thinking about the next competition. The tokens sound an interesting idea ðŸ’¡
