Herodotus lied? Shared by Vince Cholewa, 17 May 2021

Possibly a case of the story being told as "us (good guys - Greeks) vs the others (bad guys - Carthaginians)" and, of course, the "others" by not being "us" are barbarians. The suggestion in this research is the "us" actually included many mercenaries, which would somewhat undermine the claimed cultural superiority of "us good guys"

Maybe the civilized Greek Drachma was superior to the Levantine-derived talent. It bought a better quality mercenary. Incidentally, that Herodotus's account might be at variance with the (perceived) truth or with (known) facts, need not imply that he lied.
