A quick painting PSA for anyone who uses Games Workshop's nuln oil wash - they've recently changed the formula so it looks a bit different and acts quite differently (as well as reducing the pot size by 25% with no price change because, of course).
It might affect how your armour comes out - I'm struggling to make it work with my white plate armour

Alix BarclayVallejo does a shadow wash (I think it's called) that is a comparable product to old Nuln.2- Like

- Alix BarclayJosh Barton you can use a flow medium to get a similar effect but I've found it pretty good. Various companies do shadow or armour washes that work well. A drop of blue ink, brown ink and thinner also works well.

- Josh BartonAuthorAlix Barclay oh I know there are other options, I jus wanted to let people know before they buy the new option that it's not the same paint (I kept with it for consistency)2

- Dirk HeinsiusI'll do some research. I tend to do my armour a shade lighter than I want, then Matt Varnish the figure, and after the varnish is done I apply a final Nuln Oil Gloss over the armour which brings it up nice a shiny again

- Kevin O'KaneItaleri also sells a black wash that's definitely superior to the "improved" nuln oil. Also consider inks (I will be posting some examples next week).

- Joseph O'DonnellThis actually applies to *all* games Workshop Washes, which now function more like the new ones they released. They don't stick to surfaces and will find crevices and ridges much more aggressively than before. On one hand, if you wanted them to have that classic staining effect they are considerably worse than they used to be. On the other hand, if you want a wash that doesn't stain the surface and provides a higher contrast to the ridges and recesses they are strictly superior.3
