ValleyCon DBMM 200 competition, best painted army and remembering Brent Senior-Partridge - posted by Vince Cholewa, 29 April 2025

ValleyCon: This prize for best painted army, voted by the players in the DBMM 200 competition at ValleyCon at the weekend, is quite special to me. Thank you all.
It is for my Mitanni and the figures are from the estate of Brent Senior-Partridge. For those who did not know Brent, he was a dear friend who I first met in 1980 and an avid wargamer who died some years ago. We got together and made sure Brent’s huge collection of toy soldiers was not thrown away or sold at auction for next to nothing, and that his estate was fairly paid. I bought boxes of chariots and appropriate infantry (and the dreaded irregular, inferior light horse), refurbished them and reorganised them into an army from the end of the Mitanni kingdom, 13th century BC. At the weekend they won the competition and best painted army, and I remembered Brent 💕🎲⚔️

Brent at the Wellington Warlords. December 1982 or January 1983. That is Richard Adams behind him and on the right of the table is my first ever ancient army, Seleucids. We would have been playing WRG 6th edition.

240 army points of Mitanni. Figures refurbished from the estate of Brent Senior-Partridge.

CnC’s command

Sub-general’s command

Army baggage and Hittite allies.

In one of my display cases, bottom two shelves. Late
Medieval Poles and Lithuanians are above.

I label the generals in all my armies so it is clear to everyone which elements they are. I made these
from air-drying modelling clay.

That is such a cool idea.

Russell Briant thank you so much 🙏

My armies all get a back story to put in a stand on the table when I play.

I remember Brent back in 1977-79 when he introduced me to club wargaming in Hamilton - biking to his house and seeing his little wargaming shed. To a kid it was amazing seeing all his collection.
