This chilling demonstration brings the sounds of the centuries-old Celtic Carnyx war trumpet back to life — not only its sounds are deeply haunting on their own, but this instrument was once used to call troops to battle

Used by Celtic warriors marching into battle, the height of the instrument allowed it to be heard over the heads of hundreds of people. The ancient carnyx was a wind instrument of the Iron Age Celts — commonly used between approximately 200 BCE and 200 CE.
