Exhibition: “Legion: Life in the Roman army” - shared by Vince Cholewa, 30 January 2024

“Legion: Life in the Roman army”: This exhibition sounds superb. The loss of three legions (yes, Teutoburger Wald), how to explain history, the political misuse of history, a lorica segmentata reconstructed from 403 fragments, the life and love of a Palmyran auxiliary and a British woman (just for the romantics like me), and much more. There is a link at the end of this very good preview in The Guardian to the exhibition itself. Worth a visit to the British Museum!

‘Their heads were nailed to the trees’: what was life – and death – like for Roman legionaries?

Vincent Cholewa I certainly do. Must get myself organised. Trying to do it on a day when there isn't a train strike would be a decent bit of forward planning.

I've already known about it for a month or so. Perks of being in the Museum business.

Surely you were already, Vincent Cholewa? Although in this instance, a friend on the UK DBA competition circuit flagged it on Fanaticus back in October.
