Warband supporting ranks? Asked by Mark Caunter, 7 Decembret 2022

Hello. Not being a regular (or should that be irregular?) user of Warband, I was hoping that someone could clarify their rear rank support for me please. From reading through the rules, it appears that a front rank warband element can be supported by a rear rank comrade of any grade. Am I reading that correctly? Thanks, Mark

I believe that you are. The most usual configuration I've seen if a front rank of Wb(S) supported by Wb(O) behind. Support does not mention grade ...

In their own bound (when attacking) all grades of warband support each other. Eg a Wb(o) can support a Wb(s).
However, in the enemy bound (when defending) the warband need to be of the same type (grade) to benefit from rear support v knights.

Neil Williamson Thanks Neil. The defensive support was the area that I was particularly unclear about. I had taken it that the word "type" was meaning that warband couldn't support auxilia and vice versa. At least that is how"type" seems to be used under troop definitions

Mark Caunter I agree with your interpretation. Any warband can support any warband against Knights but Reg Ax(S) can't support warband and vice versa. It would need the phrase "type and grade" if warband needed to be the same grade. For clarity they should split this into two bullet points - welcome to DBMM.

Mark Caunter yep, you're right, my mistake. Type is defined as troop type and grade is S, O, I, F, X. So, any grade wb can support any grade wb in attacking, and when defending v knights.
