This Day (well two weeks ago) on October 14 1066 - A Norman-French Army led by Duke William II of Normandy successfully handles the English led by King Harold Goodwinson. A decisive victory, this marks the beginning of the successful French / Norman conquest of England.

      Let’s face it - the whole campaign was a bunch of Vikings landing and beating up a smaller bunch of Vikings then being surprised and beaten up by another bunch of Vikings who then marched south to be trounced by yet another bunch of Vikings.

      Oh yes - there was the odd Brit tagging along for laughs.
