Trophies for DBMM Nationals, June 1-2 - posted by Andrew Bennetts, 13 May 2024

 Trophies!!!!!

The trophies for the NZ DBMM Nationals at King's Birthday have arrived. A big thank you to Potbelly Miniatures for the 3D Prints and to the Auckland Trophy Centre for mounting.
If you have not yet registered but would like the chance to compete for these, there are still places available. So please get in touch as soon as possible.
Format is as last year with date based Pools:
  • Armies before 1071AD - Default 400AP or 450AP by mutual agreement
  • Armies from 1071AD - Default 450AP or 400AP by mutual agreement
The reduced cost for Bge(O) will be repeated this year, to encourage players to use this more historically appropriate option.
In addition, instead of players needing to specify Stratagems in their lists, a new option will be to allow simply reserving a value of AP in your army list and being allowed to select up to two stratagems up to this value on a game by game basis.
Full details are in the Player Pack that I have loaded into the Files section:

Yorkists vs French Ordinance and vs Medieval French - posted b y Joel McNell, 12 May 2024

A DBA player playing DBMM like a big boy😎
Generally I am a DBA player but the last couple of weeks I put om my big boy pants and played 2 games of DBMM using my 15mm Yorkists.
Game 1 was vs French ordnance.
My ally general went unreliable.
I spent the whole game trying to trying to get him back under control.
My flanks were enveloped and my attack up the centre with blade (s) to shut down the French cannon was a disaster. I found out (s) doesn't count vs art and I could have done the same thing with my blade (o) and it would have been a lot less painful when they died.
I learned a lot about what not to do.
Game 2 was vs medieval French.
I deployed on a gentle hill on an angle. This was to make my line hard to contact and make the irregular French knights have to manuvre so they would have lots of chances to go impetious and hit me piecemeal. I also put my ally general out in front so the plan wouldn't fall apart if he went unreliable.
My ally general did go unreliable again but I managed to get him back under control on turn 2.
The French knights did go impetious and charge up the hill into my cannon and longbow and I broke the large central command with concentrated fire.
Unfortunately my wings were not able to stand up to the Knights on the flanks (medieval French have sooo many knights😭) and I lost the game.
I did feel I used my army much better the second time.
As much as I enjoyed the games I'm way too lazy to paint an army in 28mm like all the cool kids.

Nice looking armies, Joel. Thank you for posting. As for allies, Julian Hannam knows my attitude, they can be f—kers! 😝

Vincent Cholewa Yea but the whole thing I like about DBMM over DBA is the narrative it creates.
If you are playing WOTR English with reliable sub commanders you might as well just play another English army.

Joel McNelly absolutely! One of the things I enjoy about DBMM is the shape or look on the table and the story we can tell afterwards. It makes sense as a “battle” report 🎲 ⚔️ 😊

Hmmm, have you tried buying a painted army in 28mm? Keep an eye on the bunker, there have been a few of late for quite good prices. https://www.facebook.com/groups/756676788984442

15mm DBMM is something to be encouraged. I'm sure there are a lot of 15mm Ancient armies gathering dust in cupboards around the place, In fact, I understand the North Shore club has been making noises about hosting a 15mm DBMM day in the near future.
