A Double Header with John Calnan
On Wednesday I traveled to Hamilton to play John where my Syracusans launched a somewhat unlikely invasion of Sargonid Assyria and came away with an even more unlikely result as the Assyrian Kn(S) chariots shattered themselves against a wall of Citizen Hoplites (Sp(I)! The Tyrant of Syracuse was overheard muttering something about "them wanting the vote next!".
On Sunday John and I faced off once more, with John again going for quality (Teutonic Knights) and me quantity (a mass of clumsy Anglo-Normans). While the game didn't get to a conclusion, the A-Ns were ahead 14-10 as the main Teutonic Kn command (Kn(S) wedges and all) were swamped by the sheer numbers of the Anglo-Normans.

The classic matchup: Quality vs Quantity
No way through for the Assyrians on their left. Syracusan light troops secure the difficult going while Mercenary Hoplites hold the gap |
On the Syracusan left numbers told again as the Assyrian Skythian Ally put up little fight, leaving the Assyrian Cv(S) unsupported. Numbers did eventually tell but they inflicted a fearsome toll on the Syracusans nonetheless. |
The initial Anglo Norman deployment covered almost the full width of the table |
The Teutonic deployment made good use of the available gentle hills but was necessarily more compact |
The Anglo Norman knights maneuver into a position to trap the Teutonic mounted between themselves and the advancing Anglo Norman infantry. |
