Four games at the Wellington Warlords - from Alastair Duncan, 7 December 2025

Roving Reporter Alastair Duncan was at the Wellington Warlords yesterday (Saturday, December 6) and sent this report and pics from four games. Alastair says:

Saturday at the Warlords saw the meeting moved into the bar [he Warlords meet at the Johnsonville Club], so spirits were high as Graham Starkey’s Saxons went head to head with Barry Norris’ Vikings.

Next door, Raymond Dick’s Pre-Islamic Arabs saw psiloi tearing apart Alastair’s Seleucid elephants and pikes, while Philip Gates’ Spanish saved Christendom from Craig Ellison’s Umayads.

And in a blast from the past, Paul Graham’s 15mm Byzantines circa 1980, took on Ray Pearces' brand new Ottomans in a night game that started at midnight ....as if the figures weren’t hard enough to see already!!!

John Edmundson I wear progressive lenses for driving, work etc, all the time except painting. When I started to struggle with painting, my optician told me that it is impossible to make progressive lenses that can work for driving and fine, close work like painting Toy soldiers. She must’ve seen my face drop! Then she said what you need is a specific pair of glasses for close work, and she did the prescription for me. They work perfectly

That could be my issue too Vincent. Mine are progressive lenses and I find them useless for close up work. I even take them off to do any prolonged reading or writing/typing.

John Edmundson same. Always been rather short sighted so reading and painting are glasses off.

Have glasses for most of life but another pair 1 step less for computer work.
